After another successful East Coast Music Week, GroundSwell capped off the event with a win for 2012 East Coast Music Award for Company of the Year. Rawlins Cross also took home the 2012 ECMA for Roots Traditional Group Recording of the Year for “Heart, Head, Hands” and Carleton Stone received a nominated for Pop Recording of the Year. Thank you to the ECMA for the honour, fellow (deserving) nominees to contributing to our local industry, and to the talented artists we have the pleasure of working with!

Carleton Stone has been busy touring western Canada supporting Tom Wilson (Blackie & the Rodeo Kings, Junkhouse) before heading back to the east coast for a string of dates with The Heartbroken. Music Nova Scotia Nominations

Earlier this month, Music Nova Scotia announced this year’s nominees including three nominations for GroundSwell artists: two for Kim Wempe and one for The Stanfields.

Currently on a cross-country tour, folk-roots vocalist and songwriter Kim Wempe has been nominated for Female Recording Artist of the Year and Folk Recording of the Year for her stunning album, Painting With Tides. Stage Door Music reviewed the album and raved, “What makes Painting With Tides so enjoyable is that Wempe is an honest songwriter who sings from the soul with music that taps into the inner workings of the human condition – you can’t help but feel connected to every nuance and word. Simply put, a full-length masterpiece. Now it is time for the rest of Canada to catch-up.”

After a win earlier this year at the East Coast Music Awards for the Rising Star of the Year, The Stanfields continue to prove themselves as the east coast’s pride and joy! This summer’s military inspired music video for single “Ship To Shore” earned them a nomination for Video of the Year. Directed by Aram Kouyoumdijan the video pays homage to their roots and sees lead singer Jon Landry play the part of video game soldier incredibly accurately. The Stanfields also made their first invasion into foreign territory this month opening two US and five Canadian dates for Celtic punk-rockers Flogging Molly.

Kim Wempe’s “Chameleon” earns semi-final spot in International Songwriting Competition

GroundSwell Music artist Kim Wempe earned a semi-final finish in the Nashville, USA based International Songwriting Competition with her song “Chameleon” from her 2010 GroundSwell/Warner release Painting With Tides. Joey Kitson tours with Rawlins Cross

Joey Kitson Stars in Confederation Centre Christmas Show

Joey once again lit up the Confed Centre Stage in Charlottetown as featured vocalist in the Centre’s 2010 Christmas show, “Christmas Blaze”. This is the latest in a string of shows that Joey has done over the past number of years at PEI’s principal concert venue including a run in Anne of Green Gables.
